How healthy is the Stream?

Follow-up lessons for grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12: Use the data collected by the students on their Nā Wai ‘Ekolu stream field trips to calculate the Hawai’i Stream Index of Biological Integrity (HS-IBI) and understand how it can be used to assess stream health.

This website contains a Hawaiian and English language, culture-rich series of learning experiences that are grounded in an intersection of Native Hawaiian knowledge and contemporary scientific knowledge of water and land/ocean resources, as well as management and ecosystem sustainability.

Virtual Tour of the Watershed

A tool teachers can use to support their curriculum related to watersheds. An opportunity for students to engage and learn about a site prior to or after visiting.  Dr. Debbie Millikan and Mr. Mike Fricano ('Iolani School) have covered several sites including Lyon Arboretum, Kanewai lo'i and the Ala Wai Canal.
